How Much Power Do You Need?
The curve below shows the electricity needed on both a winter and summers day in NB from the NB Power Strategic Plan 2011 - 2040. These curves represent the highest electricity needs of any day of the year.
As you can see in the figure, the highest uses of electricity are in the morning and at night when people wake up or get home from work and use many appliances. Electricity generation has to be in place to provide for these sudden changes in demand. Similarly, the curve below shows changes in electricity demand over a yearly period in New Brunswick from the NB Power Strategic Plan 2011 - 2040. Because of how cold it can be in the province (and how many homes are heated with electricity), there is a significant difference between winter and summer demand.
